PUBLIC access to the swimming pool in a Dumbarton leisure centre has been dramatically stopped after the boilers which heat the water stopped working.

On Friday afternoon, the Reporter was contacted by a regular pool user at the Meadow Centre to say the water temperature was getting gradually cooler due to the heating system not working.

Then, later that evening, West Dunbartonshire Leisure (WDL) - the arm's length body that looks after the local authority's sports facilities - posted on their social media channels that the pool would be closed to the public all weekend whilst they awaited the boilers getting fixed.

However, it is understood swimming lessons would continue.

The statement outlined that pool access wouldn't be available until Monday "at the earliest."

It read: "Meadow Centre: Due to an issue with the boilers there will be NO PUBLIC swimming or hot showers until Monday afternoon at the earliest."

Underneath the post, a resident asked if swimming lessons would still be on, to which they were answered by WDL: "Yes, the lessons are on."

Despite the lack of hot showers, the post went on to say that access to the gym, health suite, sportshall and fitness classes would run as normal.

The family fun night would "consist of the hall activities only."

West Dunbartonshire Leisure has been approached for further comment.
