AS the darker nights draw in a local initiative is aiming to help keep youngsters in Dumbarton safe on their walk to and from school.

The Home Safe scheme, launched by Miller Homes, provides children with high-vis vests so they are visible to drivers when walking, scooting, or cycling.

The vests are suitable for all primary school children and will be available to collect on a first-come, first-served basis from Miller Homes’ sales centre in Garshake Gardens between 10.30am and 5.30pm Thursday to Monday.

Louise Caldwell, sales director for Miller Homes Scotland West, said: “Home Safe is now in its fourth year and it’s been great to see the difference we’ve made to the local communities near our development in Dumbarton.

“Road visibility is crucial as the nights get darker, and we hope that by donating these vibrant vests, children will be safer on their school commute.”

October marks Walk to School Month which challenges young people to travel sustainably as well as safely.
