A Cardross musician is asking for support as nominations close for the 21st MG Alba Scots Trad Music Award.

Ryan Young said he would be "delighted" if people back him in category 9, musician of the year, and category 13, live act of the year.

The fiddle player featured earlier this year at a new Scottish trad music festival in Glasgow and is preparing to launch his second album at the end of this month.

Nominations close on Sunday, October 15. A public vote online will run from November 6 to 19.

Ryan told the Advertiser: "The Scots Trad Awards are such an amazing way of celebrating traditional Scottish Music and musicians. To even attend the ceremony would be such a wonderful honour.

"I’ve been very busy this year. I’ve played all across the UK and further afield in Europe.

"I have recently returned from a two-month tour of Canada and the United States and I’m now gearing up to tour the UK again launching my second album, ‘Just a Second’.

"It was recorded in Glasgow but saw me again working with Jesse Lewis, a four-time Grammy winning engineer and producer who is based in the US."

He continued: "The album is officially released on October 27 in the UK, but early copies are available at any of my gigs during the launch tour.

"After this, I will be touring Australia for six weeks which I’m also very excited about.

Dumbarton and Vale of Leven Reporter:

"Next year is already shaping up to be a busy year with tours booked in Germany and the UK, and further tours being arranged in France, the US and Canada.

"Having a nomination for a Scots Trad Award is very prestigious and to be able to attend the awards would help me to continue doing what I’m trying to do."
