A cyclist has been seriously injured following a crash which shut a major road in Balloch for several hours.

Emergency services responded to the scene on the Renton bypass (A82) yesterday after the alarm was raised at around 11.45am.

Traffic Scotland reported that the southbound carriageway of the road was closed for several hours, reopening at 6.15pm.

Police said the collision involved a cyclist and a black Mitsubishi Outlander car.

The 65-year-old male cyclist was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment to serious injuries.

The 75-year-old male driver of the car was uninjured.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing and cops are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed it.

Sergeant Archie McGuire of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit said: “Our investigation into this incident is ongoing, and I would urge anyone who witnessed it or has any other information to come forward.

“We would be keen to speak to anyone with dashcam footage, in particular anyone who was travelling southbound between the Stoneymollan and Lomondgate roundabouts around the time of the collision.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 1128 of January 11, 2024.”
