People who have symptoms of vomiting, diarrhoea, or have been in contact with anyone who is unwell, are being urged by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) not to visit hospitals.

The appeal comes amid a rise in illnesses including Norovirus, Gastroenteritis, COVID-19 and flu across Scotland.

Dr Aleksandra Marek, Consultant Microbiologist and Infection Control Doctor, said: "We are asking anyone with symptoms including vomiting or diarrhoea, or anyone who has been in contact with someone who has these symptoms, not to visit our hospitals.

"During the winter months, illnesses such as Norovirus, Gastroenteritis, COVID-19 and flu, can add to the pressures that staff face across our sites.

"To help protect yourself, your loved ones and our services, we are asking members of the public not to visit our hospital sites if they are displaying symptoms of any of these viruses.

"We are also asking anyone who does attend a site to follow infection control guidance, such as washing your hands regularly."

NHSGGC also reminded visitors about the importance of practicing good hygiene, specifically by washing hands regularly to curtail virus transmissions.

The common symptoms for these illnesses, the NHSGGC said, include nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, accompanied with headaches, fever, and muscle or limb ache.

NHSGGC is also urging people to only visit the Emergency Departments (A&E) if their conditions are critical or life-threatening.

Patients uncertain of necessary actions to take have a number of options available, which includes visiting the NHS Inform website at https://www.nhsinform.scot/, calling NHS24 on 111, or checking the NHSGGC website at http://tinyurl.com/3ryzmpxa.

For severe emergencies, the public should call 999 or visit A&E.
