An apprentice from Dumbarton's Aggreko has won an award.

Mark Diamond attended a prize-giving ceremony in the Scottish Parliament where he received a framed certificate and discussed his Graduate Engineering Apprenticeship achievements.

The announcement was made by Pam Gosal MBE MSP, shadow cabinet secretary for Youth Employment and Training, who has hosted the awards for two consecutive years, recognising young talent in her West Scotland region.

Mark won the 2024 East and West Dunbartonshire Apprenticeship award.

Ms Gosal said: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic way for talented youngsters to kickstart their careers and gain important new skills, and I’m lucky to represent a region with so many great apprentices.

“It was clear from the nominations I received that apprentices play such an important role in their respective organisations.

“After selecting the winners, I was pleased to be able to welcome each apprentice to the Scottish Parliament this week to discuss the great work they’re doing in their apprenticeship.

“It was great to meet Mark in parliament, along with his manager Stephen, and hear more about the fantastic work Mark did for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia.

“I would like to thank all the organisations who nominated an apprentice, and I look forward to holding these awards again next year so I can continue to fly the flag for apprenticeships as a fantastic and underrated career pathway.”

The contest was launched in February and nominations were closed ahead of the Scottish Apprenticeship Week.

Colleges and businesses were encouraged to nominate exceptional apprentices who deserved the recognition.
