A local MSP has voiced her “deep dismay” at the closure of Balloch's Visitor Information Centre.

We previously reported that Visit Scotland announced that this move will happen over the next two years and is part of its wider digital-first strategy which will see a total of 25 centres across Scotland close.

Pam Gosal, MSP for West Scotland, said the closure in Balloch is a “bitter blow” in promoting tourism and is urging First Minister Humza Yousaf to intervene.

She also blamed the SNP Government for cutting funding to Visit Scotland, further stressing that the closure will potentially harm the local economy and an industry that supports jobs in the area.

She said: “I am deeply dismayed that Visit Scotland is planning to shut the tourist information centre in Balloch.

“These centres help to promote tourism in Balloch and the surrounding areas and explain to visitors what the local area has to offer.

“The closure is a bitter blow and will harm the local economy in Balloch as the centre helps to support local jobs.

“The SNP Government can’t pass the buck to Visit Scotland – as these plans come on the back of their savage funding cuts to the organisation.

“I am calling on Humza Yousaf and relevant SNP ministers to intervene in this situation and do all they can to stop the centre in Balloch from closing its doors.”
