DUMBARTON Library is set to host an event later this month with the aim of helping to identify faces in photographs of Denny's Shipyard.

A Brew and a Blether has been organised by the Scottish Maritime Museum and will take place on Thursday, June 20 between 10.30am and 12pm.

Visitors to the free event at Dumbarton Library can explore the Museum’s collection of photos from the William Denny & Brothers Shipyard and share any memories they have of the shipyard over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits.

The museum, which sits on the site of the former William Denny & Brothers Shipyard, also hopes to get help putting names to faces in the historic photos of life in the shipyard.

Jennifer Pless, community engagement & development officer at the Scottish Maritime Museum, said: “We’d love to hear and share stories of life at Denny’s Shipyard over a hot cuppa at our Brew and Blether event at Dumbarton Library.

“We’re hoping to meet folk who worked at the yard or perhaps remember tales told by friends and family working there.

"They might even be able to identify some of the people in our photos which would be fantastic.

"We’d also love to meet anyone who might not have direct links but who is interested in hearing more about the shipyard and the Scottish Maritime Museum which now occupies the site.

"If we get a good turnout, we would like to make it a more regular event so anyone who is interested should pop along to Dumbarton Library on the Thursday, June 20.”
