A SSAFA volunteer plans to zip slide across Glasgow's River Clyde in celebration of a special birth.
Una Smith, who lives in Dumbarton will turn 82 on September 13.
The event isn't just thrill-seeking for Una but part of an effort to raise funds for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity she has devotedly supported for more than 20 years.
Una, a retired major, was once bestowed with the Royal Red Cross medal (Associate) by Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
She has spent her life in service, helping others in her professional capacity as a nurse and through volunteering.
She comes from Lugton, Ayrshire, and her military service in the Territorial Army marks her out as an epitome of commitment and courage.
Una said: "I’ve always believed in pushing myself and taking on new challenges.
"SSAFA has been a big part of my life, and I’m honoured to do something exciting to give back to the charity that supports so many veterans."
Beyond her personal involvement, Una has been a crucial part of SSAFA since 1998.
She has served as a caseworker, visiting veterans in their homes to provide them with support.
She has organised various events to gather funds for SSAFA, including Big Brew Ups and collections at Glasgow Central Station.
Throughout the lockdown, she continued to support, calling veterans to check on their wellbeing.
Alongside SSAFA, Una also supports Alzheimer Scotland.
This cause is personally significant as her late husband, Jim, battled Alzheimer's disease.
They were a familiar pair in the military community, often providing assistance at parades and events.
As Una gears up for her daring glide over the Clyde, she's full of hope to raise a substantial amount for supporting SSAFA’s important work in Scotland.
On the event day, donors wanting to make in-person contributions will find Una ready to accept.
All contributions will directly support SSAFA’s essential services.
