Glasgow content creator Darren Dowling (known as Dazza online) has launched an ambitious new online raffle that could see one lucky entrant win his own home, all while raising funds for a children’s charity.

Tickets for the raffle cost just £1, giving entrants the chance to win Darren’s three-bedroom new-build style home in Glasgow outright, or take a £100,000 cash alternative.

10% of the proceeds will be donated to the children’s charity When You Wish Upon A Star, which grants magical wishes to children across the UK living with life-threatening illnesses.

For Darren, the initiative is a natural evolution of of the raffles he has been running online for several years.

His first raffle was launched in 2021 as a charity fundraiser for When You Wish Upon A Star, raising £3,000 for the organisation. Since then, he has hosted a range of giveaways through his social platforms; from cash prizes of up to £5,000 to TVs, games consoles and sound systems.

Over time, the raffles have grown in scale and popularity, supported by Darren’s large online audience of more than 700,000 followers across social media platforms.

Now he’s decided to take the idea to the next level.

Darren said: “I’ve been running raffles online for a few years now and they’ve always had a great response. People love the excitement of it and it’s been a brilliant way to raise money for good causes at the same time.”

“After doing smaller raffles for things like cash prizes and tech, I started thinking, what’s the biggest thing I could possibly give away? That’s when the idea of raffling my three-bedroom home came to me!”

The charity element of the raffle is particularly important to Darren, who has been supporting When You Wish Upon A Star since 2019 and now serves as an ambassador for the organisation.

His connection began when he travelled to Lapland with the charity, witnessing first-hand the impact their work has on children and their families.

He added: “Seeing one of the wishes happen in person really stayed with me. It shows how much those moments mean to families going through incredibly tough times.”

“If this raffle can help raise money so more children get that kind of experience, then that’s something I’m really proud to be part of.”

While the concept of giving away your own house may seem unusual, Darren believes the idea captures the spirit of his online community.

“At the end of the day, it’s about doing something fun and a bit different, but also using the platform I’ve built to give something back.”

“If someone ends up with a new home, or £100,000, and we’ve raised money to help grant wishes for sick children along the way, that’s a pretty amazing outcome.”
