Dumbarton Riverside 2008s will be looking sharp next season after a company with family ties to the team stepped in to sponsor the young football stars.

Macklin Motors Paisley Peugeot is helping to support the next generation of players in the town by agreeing to support two of the club’s teams with new kit for the season. The teams, made up of nine and ten year olds, have 20 players in total.

The Paisley site has a connection with the side as the dealership’s master technician, Nicky McColl, is a football coach for the club and has a son who plays as a goalkeeper for the 2008s.

Nicky hailed the support and the progress made by the players over the course of the season.

He said: “Dumbarton Riverside FC is a relatively new club but the teams are building momentum and the talent that has emerged from the club in its short time has been amazing.

“The 2008s have worked very hard throughout the season and one of our teams has progressed to a more competitive league.

“It takes a lot of effort to make a football club successful, so we are very grateful to have the backing of local businesses and the financial support of a new set of strips.

Alexander Sharp, general manager of Macklin Motors Paisley Peugeot, meanwhile said the company were grateful for the chance to show their support.

He added: “Our dealership is part of a fantastic community and it is great to have the opportunity to play a part in supporting local young people through grassroots football.

“The boys have demonstrated amazing community spirit and we are proud to have the Macklin Motors name on their strips.”
