A wet and wild morning at East End Park was the scene as Dumbarton United 2005s thrashed St Peters Reds 11-0 as they finally got their last 64 league cup match underway.

Both sides started well but the first chance was presented to Dumbarton after only three minutes when Chris McGroggan’s shot was blocked by the keeper and fell nicely to Derek Wilson outside of the box whose shot was again blocked by the St. Peters keeper only to be slotted in from close range by McGroggan.

From the kick-off Dumbarton won the ball quickly and after a nice passage of play on the outside of the box, Dominic Burns fired a shot which flew past the keeper and into the back of the net.

That was quickly followed by a third for Burns who again scored after 15 minutes. With Dumbarton 3-0 up and St Peters penned in, Dumbarton were well in control and a lovely through ball from Ryan Thomson was met by a fine goal from Reece Beaton, slotting it past the keeper’s right and into the back of the net.

Ryan Murray then got onto the score sheet with a simple tap in from close range after 35 minutes making it 5-0 to Dumbarton at the break.

Dumbarton started strongly in the second half and from Wilson’s corner, Thomson was there to slot the ball past the keeper.

After 42 minutes, Beaton got his second with a simple tap in from close range. On 45 minutes Adam Gow then got on the score sheet with a fantastic right footed sweeping volley into the right-hand corner of the net.

Another fantastic corner by Wilson was then met by McGroggan for his second, closely followed by a clean strike by Thomson for his second and McGroggan’s hat-trick finished off the game to make it 11-0 to Dumbarton.
