Dumbarton Accies secured an excellent 4-2 away win against a strong Stenhousemuir team at Ochilview on Saturday.

With league leaders Thorn Athletic not in action, it was a good chance for Accies to move closer at the top and they made no mistake about it with Andrew MacDonald opening the scoring 18 minutes in.

Stenny did respond quickly after Kenneth Wilson misjudged a long ball over the top, but MacDonald was at the centre of Accies’ attack once again moments later, controlling in the box before being upended which resulted in him being subbed off, with captain Jack Buchanan slotting home the spot kick to restore his side’s lead.

MacDonald’s replacement Scott Cowan got in on the action to make it three from close range before the break.

The home side reduced the deficit again on the stroke of half-time with a fine Harry Extance volley.

Accies looked to have restored their two goal lead shortly after the restart but referee Paul Taylor controversially disallowed it after a push in the box.

Michael Dickie’s side did eventually grab their fourth on the hour mark after Alan Filshie bundled it home after a scramble in the box.

The second-half was a more timid affair compared to the first with Accies happy to hit the Warriors on the counter attack.

Dickie said: “The team played well today. Despite conceding the two goals, the team largely defended well throughout the match and we created lots of scoring opportunities up front.”
