Manager Brian Brown admits Vale of Leven’s inability to score in the last two games is disappointing but that he’s keeping the faith when it comes to his side’s chances of gaining promotion.

Vale’s nearest rivals, Ashfield and Carluke, both earned decisive victories in their respective fixtures on Saturday.

But it was a different story for the Millburn Park men, who were held to a goalless draw in a tame affair against Muirkirk in their last home game of the season.

Ashfield, who have a game in hand, moved ahead of Brown’s side into third-place on goal difference, but the Vale boss remains optimistic the point may still turn out to be a good one.

He said: “We didn’t play badly, probably not the best we’ve played all season, but still probably enough to win the game. We just never took our chances in the end.

“We spend a lot of time on our attacking in training, so its disappointing it’s not really come out on the park.

“We’ve not played at the tempo we’ve been playing at, but until it’s mathematically impossible we’ll keep fighting to get up.

“We just need to keep battering away and, hopefully, it’ll turn round for us. We’re definitely not done yet, that’s for sure.”

Vale face Johnstone Burgh at Keanie Park on Saturday in their third-last game of the season. Kick-off is at 2pm.
