Vale of Leven brought their season to a close with an enthralling 5-4 loss away to Lesmahagow at the weekend with boss Brian Brown praising his side’s efforts after the thrilling encounter.

The visitors opened up a two goal lead inside the opening 10 minutes through Andrew Clark and David McNaught before the Gow hit back in an exciting end-to-end match that seen Vale reduced to nine men.

A spirited display from the nine men of Vale saw them draw level with 25 minutes remaining before Lesmahagow pulled away to secure the points.

Brown said: “It was a really good match and a good performance from us too.

"We went in 2-1 up at the break before having two men sent off and it was backs to the wall after that, but the boys gave it everything.

"It was a great effort and a great match to finish the season with. It was a great match to finish the season with plenty of action.”

With results elsewhere going against them, Vale fell to fifth in the table but Brown insists his side will be eyeing promotion against next season, adding: ”We gave it a good go. You have to look at the positives over the season.

"We’ve scored plenty of goals and played some really good football at the Millburn.

"If we are able to find a consistency and add to the squad then we won’t be far away at all next season.”
