Kirktonhill gents were unfortunate to lose their latest league match last week as they to a narrow 6-3 defeat against Drumchapel.
With such fine margins between winning and losing, it could have been a different story for the Kirktonhill side who could count themselves unlucky not to get the home win.
Suffering from a somewhat unsettled season so far due to several key players missing at various points through work commitments, captain Douglas Mackechnie and stalwart Alan Barbour were again unavailable for the Drum match.
And, with both Mackechnie and Barbour missing, brothers Michael and David Corcoran moved onto court one for the first time together.
The visitors were able to get the all-important break late in a very evenly balanced first set to take it 4-6. A tense second set following, going all the way to a tie-break with Michael and David holding their nerve to level proceedings before stepping it up in the final set, cruising to a 6-2 to put the home side in a commanding lead.
On court two, meanwhile, there was very little to separate Stuart Rae and Brian Rainey from their Drumchapel opponents, edging out a tight first set 6-4.
The Kirktonhill pair couldn’t build on this, however, as they went on to lose the next two sets 4-6, 4-6.
Finally on court three Andrew McCollum and Kenny Watters, who has recently returned to the club after many years, got off to a slow start as they lost the opening set 3-6.
Watters, looking to settle back into competitive tennis in the remaining sets, and McCollum were left frustrated in the remaining two sets, eventually going on to lose them 5-7, 6-7.
