West Dunbartonshire Leisure celebrated a fantastic summer of women’s footballing action last week with a girls football camp at Dumbarton Academy.

Having inspired the nation with their incredible run to the World Cup group stages in France earlier this summer, the legacy of Shelley Kerr’s Scotland side was clear to see with 18 young girls all eager to be the next Erin Cuthbert.

With a record 18,555 spectators supporting the national team in their 3-2 warm up victory against Jamaica at Hampden in May, and with a TV audience of more than 6 million viewers watching their opening match against England in Nice, the nation was gripped.

And with girls’ football in West Dunbartonshire growing over the last few years with a number of community sessions and local groups providing plenty of opportunities both recreationally and competitively, the most recent camp proved to be another great success.

There to learn and develop their skills over the course of the week, the 18 girls impressed throughout the passing, shooting, dribbling and control challenges while also making new friends.

With all coaches Scottish FA qualified and Disclosure Scotland checked, parents can safely drop their children off at any WDL football development camp over the summer.
