Brian Brown was full of praise for his Vale of Leven side after they got their West Region League Two campaign up and running in emphatic fashion, with a 7-0 win.

Vale opened the scoring against Ardeer Thistle after just 37 seconds on Saturday thanks to Mark Butler with Scott Arthur and Daniel Paterson making it three before the break.

Scott Gallagher went on to grab four in the second-half with Brown delighted with his side’s reaction after suffering a heavy loss of their own in the Sectional League Cup last week.

“That was a brilliant way to start the season and bounce back from a disappointing league cup result last Monday,” Brown told Reporter Sport. “I asked for a bit of a reaction after the 9-1 Vale of Clyde loss and I certainly got it.

“That is definitely more like us. That’s the way we should be playing and I’m delighted to bounce back like that. It definitely is a move in the right direction for us but there is still work to be done.

“We emphasised the importance of going out and pressing early on. We hadn’t really been doing that in the league cup but we were really quick out the blocks here. We scored after just 37 seconds which really set the tone.”
