Brian Brown couldn’t hide his delight after his Vale of Leven side eased to a comfortable 2-0 win over Saltcoats Victoria on Saturday to maintain their perfect league start.

Scott Gallagher opened the scoring for the Vale with 22 minutes on the clock with his fifth goal in just three matches as Brown’s side got off to a flier at the Millburn.

Vale should have built on their lead in a dominant first 45 but their second didn’t come until the second-half with Fraser Forbes’ effort 51 minutes in doubling the advantage and securing another three points to put Vale joint top of League Two with Johnstone Burgh.

And while Brown insists the scoreline perhaps flattered the visitors, he was more than pleased with another dominant display and a crucial three points.

He said: “I’m delighted with that. I’m happy with the result and the way we played over the 90 minutes. It could have and should have been a lot more than two with some composure in front of goal. We could have matched the 7-0 Ardeer result, although I can have no complaints with the clean sheet and another big victory.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season to be honest. We are playing well, scoring goals and picking up points. Confidence is really high within the team so long may the positive results continue.”
