With Vale of Leven not in action at the weekend, boss Brian Brown was left disappointed that his side weren’t able to build on their perfect start to the league season.

Vale have hit the ground running in the West Region League Two with three wins from three, scoring 13 goals while conceding just the two.

Currently sitting top of the table following a 7-0 win over Ardeer Thistle, a 4-2 away win against Ashfield and a comfortable 2-0 victory at home to Saltcoats last week, Brown’s men are in fine form.

But, due to the league fixtures, Vale didn’t have a scheduled match on Saturday with the gaffer admitting the weekend off came at the worst possible time for his side.

He said: “We last played against Saltcoats a couple of weeks ago so it’s not too long without a match but to be honest it would have been good to be able to get a run out on Saturday to keep our form and momentum rolling but, unfortunately, it wasn’t to be due to the way the league is set up. We now have Yoker tomorrow night so it wasn’t too long of a break.”

The Whe Ho, who dropped down to League Two following relegation last season, have also found some early season form themselves with three wins from three.

The Vale gaffer acknowledged that tomorrow night’s fixture will be a test but remains confident in his own side’s excellent form, adding: “Yoker are a top side. We played them in the league cup a couple of weeks ago where it finished 2-2, so we’re expecting another tough one.

“They’ll be looking to bounce straight back up to League One after their relegation so they’ll be looking to maintain their bright start to the league.

“It’s at the Millburn, though, so we are confident that we can go and do some more damage. You’ve always got to be confident at home.”
