Dumbarton United 2004s got their 2019/20 Glasgow and District Youth Football League off to the perfect start at the weekend with a resounding 14-0 win over Finnart FC at East End Park.

The game was less than a minute old when United notched their first goal of the afternoon thanks to Joe May who expertly finished after a clever run and cutback.

Luke Godwin doubled the advantage just eight minutes later as he chipped the advancing keeper after Lewis Lobban’s defence-splitting pass.

May grabbed his second of the afternoon 14 minutes in with a 25-yard wonder strike that left the Finnart defence and keeper stranded as it found the top corner.

And, just two minutes later, United had their fourth when Lobban raced clear of the defence before slotting home.

May turned provider 21 minutes in for Dumbarton’s fifth of the day, finding Godwin who headed home with ease.

Godwin then completed a stunning first-half hat-trick moments later with a tap in after May laid it off once again.

May then completed his own hat-trick moments before the break with another fine finish from outside of the box as Dumbarton went in 7-0 up.

The Dumbarton youngsters didn’t let up after the restart, adding their eighth just two minutes in thanks to May’s fourth.

Lucan Dobbin got in on the act shortly after that with a tap in for United’s ninth before Lobban made it 10 with a straightforward finish minutes later.

Clever link-up play between Godwin and James King saw United grab their eleventh just after the hour mark with Dobbin getting the final touch.

May grabbed his fourth and United’s 12th of the game 72 minutes in before a quickfire double from Dobbin rounded off the emphatic win as the youngsters got their 2019/20 campaign up and running.
