A RESTAURANT in Dumbarton has launched a new mouthwatering menu for spring.

The Reporter's Michael Pringle went along with his other half to try out the new dishes on offer at the Malt & Myre at Levengate Roundabout, just off the A82.

The Brewers Fayre owned establishment served up a couple of fresh starters to tantalise the taste buds. The first offering was Crispy Potato Dippers – a plentiful helping of potato skin dippers loaded with bacon, mozzarella and cheddar with a sprinkling of spring onions and a sour cream dip – ideal for sharing. A second starter dish came in the form of Half a Dozen Chicken Wings, deep fired southern style chicken served with piri-piri dipping sauce for those who like it hot.

We sampled three main course dishes; Chicken Garlic Chicken, Mexican Beef Chilli and Beef, Mushroom & Cheese Burger. The first was breaded chicken breast served with a garlic spread with an accompanying salad garnish, chips and a fried egg – a very tasty and simple dish. The second main newbie was tasty but not too hot beef chilli with pinto beans, it had rice and tortilla chips as accompaniments. The cheese burger was as a burger should be with the added addition of cheddar and tasty mushrooms – it was served with chips and coleslaw.

The desserts were well worth waiting for, although we didn't need to – service staff were efficient and courteous. Dirty Mud Pie is definitely one for chocolate lovers – biscuit base, chocolate brownie, chocolate fudge and finished with white chocolate shavings – and to top it off it was served with vanilla ice cream, crumbled flake and chocolate sauce. I don't know how we did it but we still managed to leave room for a piece of Banoffee Pie which was fresh and flavourful.

Verdict: mouthwatering food in a warm family friendly environment. With the starters priced at under £5, mains at under £10 and the delicious Dirty Mud Pie at less than £4 these new additions to the menu should prove a big hit this season.
