ELDERLY and the vulnerable were left waiting in wet and chilly weather outside Alexandria Community Centre as they queued to get their Covid-19 vaccine.

Reports of a group of people huddled together in the rain and cold as they waited their turn to enter the building were made via social media, and there were several online comments suggesting that people were queueing for at least 45 minutes.

A local who was shocked by the queue on Wednesday commented: “Can someone people look into the disaster at Alexandria this morning? Lots of older people waiting outside for the vaccine.

“Some seemed very frail and there was no place to sit, there was a long line of people too.

“A lot I imagine need support with these appointments. I felt their fear.”

Beth Culshaw, chief officer of West Dunbartonshire HSCP, said: “The mass vaccination programme is progressing extremely well in West Dunbartonshire and Alexandria has been our busiest clinic in terms of the numbers of residents vaccinated, which is positive for the whole community.

“We’re sorry if anyone had to wait longer than expected on Wednesday. This was due to a large number of people arriving early for appointments.

“We would remind people to arrive no more than 15 minutes in advance of their appointment time.”
